Random Five Friday...

Once again, it's time for Random Five Friday.  Here are some things that have been going on around here...

1. It's been a drenching day, to say the least. In the last 24 hours, we've had over 7 1/2" of rain!  The roads are treacherous in places, and the creeks are overflowing their banks.  The pond at the other farm, which was almost completely dry yesterday, is full again...

2.  With this weather, the cows have been staying inside the barn all day and all night.  They will be thrilled when they can go out again, and I don't blame them!

3.  I finally took the air conditioner out of our bedroom window yesterday.  It's nice to have the windows open and throw on a couple of blankets at night.  I hope now, once this front that has stalled over top of us moves through, that we'll be having typical fall weather, instead of the hot temps that we were having.

4.  Our neighbors left a huge glass pumpkin, full of M & M's on our kitchen table on Sunday...and I'm embarrassed to say that it's already about half empty!

5.  The kids are looking forward to a couple of days off from school next week.  These will be the first days since before school started, that they will be able to sleep in.  They've either had to be up early for school on the weekdays, up for early morning cross country practice on Saturday mornings, or up to help us on Sundays.

Here's hoping for some sunshine this weekend!

  1. i'm jealous for your drenching rains and full ponds! hope to get some of that here this weekend!

  2. i love M&M's ... yum! wow, lots of rain for you all ... we had a bunch of rain this week in VA. it has been nice. i know we need it so badly.

    have a great weekend. ( :

  3. Great list!
We too had rain last night, and I'm happy for it; beats snow :)

Have to smile, you've had a whole jar of M&M's for almost a week, and they are only half gone??? You all need some chocolate lovers around there ***grin*!

    Happy weekend!

  4. That is a lot of rain. Oh I love the fresh air in the night. Nice neighbours the bowl would be empty if I was there. Sleeping in they are going to love that. The sun will shine Alica have a nice weekend. Hug B

  5. That is some serious rain! I'm glad you got your silage cut....those fields must be knee deep mud now.

  6. Rain is nice -- but that's just too much! I hope you are drying out by now.
Enjoy the kid's day off (sleep in just a little?)

  7. That is a ton of rain!! I can't even imagine that. Glad your pond is full.
I love all of the photos.

  8. Wow that's a lot of rain. It's been nice here most of the week. (60's but no rain) until today and wouldn't you know it we wanted to take in the local Corn Maze. Hope it stops by nightfall. Were your kids out for Conferences? Coleen had 2 days off this week and we had some fun together.

  9. visiting via Nancy at A Rural Journal and enjoying my visit. Mom and Daddy, central VA, have had a LOT of rain this week and still raining. I'm in southwest VA and we need a tad of rain to make the fall colour burst. the m&m's sound like a treat, nice neighbors!

  10. Wow! That's a deluge. Do you have an ark big enough to hold a herd of cows? Hoping for some better weather for you soon.

  11. That's the type of rain we've had all summer but this fall is beautiful and sunny. We were supposed to have possible rain but it was a stellar day and I could work outside all day.

We let our cows out in the rain to shower, lol...but they make muddy fields in the low spots.

I love the cooler nights to sleep and add an extra blanket.
I'm so glad that you got your corn in before the rain started. I hope that you have a restful weekend if that is possible on a farm.

  12. Out came the sun to dry up all the rain...have you seen the itsy bitsy spider? Anyway, I love the rain. Aloha

  13. Hope you get some sunshine! I'd be happy to take a bit of that rain for you. ;-)

  14. That is a LOT of rain !
Hope things get a bit drier and sunnier in your neck of the woods.
Thank goodness for M& Ms :)

I enjoy hearing what you have to say! Thanks for your comments!
