Day after day...week after week...we have our routine. It's nice to have some unexpected visitors stop in for a visit.
Last evening as we were finishing up the barn work, getting some supper, and awaiting Eric's arrival home from a week in Phoenix, we got a phone call from my cousin. He had been at his parents' house, just a few miles away, when a young man stopped in looking for a place to pitch his tent for the night. My aunt and uncle weren't home, so my cousin called us to see if we would be willing to host the man for the night.
Meet Thomas...
Thomas is a 26 year old from France, who is taking three months to ride his bicycle from New York to San Francisco. He rides about 50 miles per day...starting early in the morning and riding until it gets too hot...then riding again in the evening as it cools off. He carries all of his supplies on his bike...food, water, a tent, extra clothes, a nice camera to document his trip...it's heavy!
He was a very nice young man, and we really enjoyed meeting him and spending some time getting to know him! If you see him pedaling by on his way west, I hope you take the chance to meet him!
oh, wow! that's very cool (and a bit daring!) i'm assuming he speaks pretty good english.
ReplyDeleteWOW what an adventure ! If I see him pedal by I will let you know :)
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! It would be neat if he passed through Iowa and joined RAGBRAI.
ReplyDeleteWow what an incredible opportunity to talk to someone with such a big goal, I would have loved meeting Thomas. Good luck Thomas, safe travels. Nice people letting him camp:) Hug B
ReplyDeleteWho better to give him hospitality that you folks. I'm sure that he appreciated you generosity. Good for you. He looks like a nice ambitious young man to do this. I'm sure that he must meet with some dangers some times. I hope that he reach his destination safely.
ReplyDeleteHugs,

ReplyDeleteYou just never know what the day will bring -- what a lovely story about one of the good ones. :)
ReplyDeleteI will keep my eye out for him on my journeys on my bike rides. Except I m sure he is way past Ohio already. Happy Biking Thomas be safe ! Does he have a blog we can follow his journey on?
ReplyDeleteSaun...here is his website. He won't be in Ohio for a while yet...so keep watching! :)

that's great, I bet he had a great time at your place!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if he will go through South Dakota? When I was a kid we had a guy stop that was canoeing down the Missouri. It is always interesting to see life through another person's eyes.
ReplyDeleteWow ...that is quite the adventure !
ReplyDeleteHi Alicia! I'm obsessed with your blog - as a city girl, all things outside of buildings and streets fascinate me! Looking forward to more posts about your farm, cows, and adventures :)
