On a beautiful sunny October day...exactly twenty years ago today...
Jim and I got married!
Here's how some of our anniversary was spent...
Jim and Daniel (our neighbor helper) buried the end of the ag bag permanently. They dug a trench about twelve inches deep and buried the end of the bag, covering it with dirt to give it a tight seal...
I only got back out with my camera after milking tonight, so it's a little hard to see here, but Jim packed the dirt by driving back and forth with the truck. If it's not packed tightly, the end can pop out...
As the silage ferments, it creates gas. Stinky, potent gas. I made the mistake one year of putting my nose to the slit and sniffing. Bad. Idea. !!
The slit in the bag allows the gas to escape...
It was pretty much a normal day. That's how it is this time of year...there's always something to do, no matter if it's a birthday, anniversary, or holiday...but it was a good day!
And this is how the day is ending...with a beautiful sunset!
I love October!
Oh Happy 20th Anniversary oh what a good way to celebrate with the work done and that gorgeous sky. Hug B
ReplyDeletehappy anniversary to you! and days filled with 'normal' are good days. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary. Twenty years is quite a milestone. And you celebrated like most farmers--farming. Hope you two get some time together without the farm to celebrate some more.
ReplyDeleteI know about stinky silage. Our silage was stashed in a long pit in the ground. When to top crusted over it was soft and bouncy and a great place to wrestle with one's sibs. The loser ended up face down breathing fermenting corn. It was something kids would do to procrastinate. I learned to improve my wrestling skills and/or run faster.
Happy Anniversary! I agree...October is wonderful. It was perfect here today also.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! Ranching and Farming a lot of the time doesnt allow for breaks but it is nice to hear from others! Hope he at least thought to g e t a card.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!!! It goes by so fast doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary and Congratulations on 20 years married. The beautiful sunset is the perfect ending for the occasion.
ReplyDeleteGod's Blessings on many more years together.
Hugs,
JB

ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how fast time flies :)
Love the pictures, and it's good to know that you are now ready for winter.
Have a great weekend!

Congratulations! I am very happy for you. My husband and I will have 19 years at the end of the month. Time sure flies doesn't it? I hope you are as happy as we are. I have very fond memories of riding in stinking silage wagons. We would bury ourselves in the hot smelly silage wagon as Dad pulled it up to feed the cattle. I don't think Mom liked it, but we thought it was heaven.
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary! And beautiful sunset.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I hope the next twenty are just as happy!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the anniversary! And that is a beautiful sunset - I envy your wide open sky!
ReplyDeleteCongrats (belated:) )! Loe the colors in your October sky!
