Happy Birth Day...

We were beginning to wonder if she was ever going to have her calf...

All in her own time...only one week late...

I never get tired of seeing the babies stand up so soon after birth.  They wobble around for a while as they find their legs, but soon they're up and running!  This little big guy has had his first bottle of colostrum and will soon be settled in for the night.

Happy birth day bully!

Babies...

It's always fun to see new babies.  Look what was born while we were at Church this morning...

This big bull calf was content to lay in the grass on this beautiful day.  Mom was always close by, but when she went inside to eat, I got a few pictures...

She soon saw what I was up to, and became concerned...

Both mom and calf are doing fine.  He drank two quarts of colostrum, and is settled in for the night.

And now for some other babies...

Who could ever deny the cuteness factor of kitties...

Jolyn (mom) was quite relaxed until she saw the dog following me...thus the "I'm ready to protect my babies" look on her face...

Wouldn't you just love to take one home with you?!

Happy Birth-Day...

Well...winter appears to be back!  When we woke up this morning, the temperature was 25 degrees...but it didn't feel too bad, really, since there was very little wind.

It was a good day...although a cold one...to be born, for this little one.  She's just a few hours old in the video, and Jim has just brought her into the box pen with her new friends.  Her mama is in a stall nearby, eating some hay.  It's almost lunch time, and the other cows know it...they're getting restless, waiting for their lunch.

(sorry the camera went sideways near the end...oops!)

She was born while we were eating breakfast this morning, and Jim told Jenna that since today is her birthday (14!) that if the calf was a heifer, we'd name her Jenna.

And here are some pictures of the other birthday girl...being goofy with her friend Anna...

...and a nice one :) ...

I can't believe our "baby" is fourteen today.

Happy Birthday Jenna (s)!

Brand New Baby...

I just had to share this with you today!

This morning we noticed that one of our springers was about to give birth to her second calf, over at the other farm.  So Jim hooked up the cow trailer, and we went over and brought her home.  We put her in the outside pen, with some fresh bedding, and waited...

And waited...

Jim and I both had to go away, but I was only gone for a short time.  When I came home, the first thing I did was peek in on the cow.  I wish I would've had my camera in my hand right then, because she was literally in the end stages of having her calf!  I made sure she was ok, and ran and got my camera.

Here she is...barely five minutes old, and still wet...

And in case you wondered how those calves go from being all wet and slimy, to being soft and fluffy and clean, here it is!  Make sure you turn up the volume!

Mom will be cleaning her baby for a while yet...and I'd bet that in about thirty minutes or so, her calf will be up tottering around.

It's always such an incredible thing to witness!

What a beautiful day to be born!
