Happy New Year 2012...

Here we are again, January 1...  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It doesn't seem like all that long ago that I was traipsing out behind the barn on New Years Day morning with my camera to take a picture of the first sunrise of 2011.

I didn't have the luxury of a leisurely morning like that today...Sunday mornings here are a bit hectic.  Usually, Jim and I get up and get started with the milking and feeding, and the kids come out a little later to help with bedding up and calves before we all run for the shower and shovel in some breakfast before Church.  It's hectic but do-able.

Yesterday we had my family's big Christmas get together, and the cousins had a sleepover afterwards on our living room floor.  Of course they wanted to stay up to see the New Year in, so this morning it was a little harder to roll out of bed and head to the barn.  They did, though, and we made it to Church with a few minutes to spare.

Then we all gathered at my parents' house this afternoon for one last family meal before we had to begin scattering.  It could be a year until we're ALL together again...(but hopefully not!) Two families live out of state, and with young adult cousins who now have college and work schedules to juggle, our time together is limited.

We did manage to get a picture of us four milkmaids girls this afternoon...

It was a great way to welcome the new year did you celebrate?

  1. Thats great that you all were able to get together ! I was able to get my first 2012 sunrise this morning ! It was awesome ! I find the days , months and years go by so fast now that I am getting older ! Have a wonderful day and Happy New Year to you and your family!

  2. What a great picture! It's nice to spend the holidays with family. I did spend time with parts of my family, but my son and nephews are at an age when hanging out with us old folks is a drag on a party night.

  3. I rang in the new year with a miserable case of bronchitis and an equally miserable adverse reaction to my antibiotic! It can only get better, right? :-)

I think you and Peg look so much alike. Nice picture of all of you! Happy New Year!

  4. Fantastic i love when you can have all the family together, those are the moments that stay with you.
I love the photo the milkmaids are looking good.
2012 is here and everything is going to be great this year for all. Happy New Year Alica. B

  5. Great picture of you and your sisters, Alica! Happy 2012!...Rhoda

  6. I bet you guys had a ball being all together. I know when my fam. gets together it is fun and loud with 7 brothers and 3 sisters, plus spouses and children, oh my. And I bet your Mom cooked up the most delicious meal, my mouth is watering.
Doesn't seem like winter here, will be in the 60's this entire week !!!
Loved your last post, sorry about the one twin, but the the other baby is soooo cute!!
Loved hearing from your Mom it made me smile all day and into the week-end.
    Happy New Year

  7. Great picture! Pretty quiet around here but I did get the Christmas decorations put away. :)

  8. Just stumble upon your blog...and I love it!

Recently "got' a wee cow and she is the best thing ever!

I "borrow" both cow and goat so I love reading about those who get to do it for real! :)

    Happy New Year!
I look forward to visiting here!

  9. You all look so happy. I love the milk maids comment. That sounds like something my sister and I would come up with. Please swing by my porch for a spell. I have given you an award, as you are one of my favorite blogs. Happy New year.

  10. Hi Alicia! So nice to find your blog! I'm excited to follow along with your adventures :) Here's a post I did last year on the flowers of Cannon Beach. It's a favorite place to visit for family.
    Cheers, Jenni

  11. A shower before church? We settle for baby wipes for any dirt that got past the coveralls and then off we go. If we smell, no one in Sunday school has had the nerve to tell us!
