...and More Blooms...

Years ago, I planted a lot of zinnias and sunflowers, and put a sign out along the road that said, "Pick your own flowers...$1.00 per dozen".  But my garden sits just a little too far out of sight of a busy road, so much to my disappointment, it never really got off the ground.

However...I've never had to plant any sunflowers since!

Every year I get a ton of volunteers, and I never know just what variety they'll be!  I always transplant them around this huge rock that sits right in the middle of my garden...

...and the first ones began blooming just in the last few days...

I love their cheery faces, and I'm anxious to see what other colors might have come up this year!

Here's another beautiful flower...actually it's a Patty Pan Squash blossom.  If you click on the picture to enlarge it, you can see a tiny squash beginning to grow just above the upper right corner of the flower.  (It's blossom hasn't opened yet)  This is the first year I've grown these, and we've found them to be delicious, sliced really thin and sauteed in olive oil...

This is a variety of Lamb's Ears...

...and my "Annabelle"  Hydrangea finally looks like it's going to make it this year, after a couple of years of looking pretty sad.  Maybe it's all the rain we've had?

And last but not's that good old corn stalk...still growing taller and stronger!

Do you think it will be over my head next month at this time?

  1. Your sunflowers are looking gorgeous. I'm trying to grow summer squash for the first time and have just one squash on it. Your corn is growing great. Hope you get lots of ears!

  2. Well... I would have kept you in business if I lived closer!!
What a treat that would have been to have fresh flowers and the price.... wow!

    Love, love your sunflowers!!!
Our sunflowers are just little babies compaired to yours... but, they didn't freeze last Sunday, so I take that as a good sign of beautiful flowers to be :)

Yes~~ I think that your corn is going to be taller than you by next month.

    Have a great night.
I think we're going to get the lawns mowed.

  3. All looks soo pretty ! WOW ! those are beautiful big sunflowers ! Have a wonderful day !

  4. Our corn here is up too, just like yours... if we could just get a LITTLE more rain!

  5. I can't believe you have sunflowers and that your corn is that tall already. It is cool here. I'm in a sweater and wrapped in a blanket. Your photos are great.

  6. Oh Alica these are wonderful shots. I love your dog. It sure is getting busy around here it is nice to sit and look at your beautiful gardens. B

  7. Yep I do think but then I don't know how tall you are. :) Your sunflowers look great. I have always thought about the same thing just doing bouquets and setting up a table out by the road. I just haven't done it. I am hoping to do it with the pumpkins though.
    Everything looks so nice.

  8. Holy Cow! Your plants are so good looking and so far ahead of ours. I am SO jealous. We've had such a cold rotten spring (makes up for the very dry warm winter I guess) that my cukes are just getting brave enough to come up. I'd have lots of sunflowers if I kept the ones the birds planted but I have no place big enough to grow them. Yup. Jealous.

  9. Love your sunflowers, they are beautiful! Pattypan squash is one of my favorites to grow and to EAT!! LOL!! Can't wait to see the corn next month! :)

  10. Your flowers are beautiful, I have never been able to grow hydrangeas they just do not do well here or I do not do well by them. Love love the sunflowers they make me smile.

I enjoy hearing what you have to say! Thanks for your comments!
