Colors of Spring...

Spring is by far my favorite season!

Warmer weather...more hours of daylight...colors...hearing the birds sing...mowing the grass...seeing neighbors outside...getting more eggs from our chickens...planting garden...the feel of fresh dirt between my fingers...new life...these are just a few of the reasons I love spring!

Here are a few samples of the colors I've been seeing and thoroughly enjoying this week...

...and yesterday afternoon I got the first part of my garden planted!  I put in potatoes, onions, zucchini, cucumbers and two varieties of green beans...

The potatoes and onions should have been planted earlier, but it's been so wet that it just didn't happen.  I put the tomato cages in place yesterday, so I'll know just where they're going; right now they're hardening on my porch until the danger of frost is over.  In late May, the lima beans will go in, and the weeds will have started to grow vigorously. (if only we could do away with that part!)

It just doesn't get much better than this!

  4. Your garden looks great. I have my onions, beets and peppers and tomatoes in so far. The one thing about California is it is brown. I love how green you have it. Northern Ca is green but not us we have different shades of brown. I do like brown but green rests your eyes.
I am going to plant some more this week. I did get three rows of sunflowers planted. We have parrots that come and I plant them for them to eat.
Someone let two out and now we have flocks. They come and eat my sunflowers and I love watching them. They have been flying by the last few days screeching because there aren't any to eat. :)
    Have a great week

  5. I am so jealous. If I stepped into my garden now I'd loose a leg. I'm glad for rain because we need to always be thankful and in the middle of the summer when we have a drought, I'd be wishing for it. But It's really slowing progress. The big farmers around us are so behind getting into the fields.
    God bless

  6. Beautiful colors! I'm planning on cleaning the garden off tomorrow. We've had so much wind that outdoors work like that has been pushed off, and we're in the thirties again tonight~big sigh. Looks like you are right on top of that gardening!

  7. How beautiful! Beyond tulips and daffodils, the spring flowers are just starting to peep out of the soil here. Will be a few more weeks yet before we are able to start planting. Seeing yours, encourages me that warmer days are headed up to us! :)

  9. Wow, your garden is so big! That's great! You've got a great start on the garden. I haven't planted a single thing yet...what in the world am I waiting for! I really need to get on it. I am glad that the weather has been warming up as well. We've been getting a ton of rain too. It seems like it rains every day. I am so thankful when the sun comes out...even if it's only for a few hours!

  11. WOTP...that red flower is a fern-leafed Peony. I got it from a lady at Church. I think it's a rather old fashioned variety, and takes a while to get established. Thanks for stopping!
