Happy Birth-Day...

Well...winter appears to be back!  When we woke up this morning, the temperature was 25 degrees...but it didn't feel too bad, really, since there was very little wind.

It was a good day...although a cold one...to be born, for this little one.  She's just a few hours old in the video, and Jim has just brought her into the box pen with her new friends.  Her mama is in a stall nearby, eating some hay.  It's almost lunch time, and the other cows know it...they're getting restless, waiting for their lunch.

(sorry the camera went sideways near the end...oops!)

She was born while we were eating breakfast this morning, and Jim told Jenna that since today is her birthday (14!) that if the calf was a heifer, we'd name her Jenna.

And here are some pictures of the other birthday girl...being goofy with her friend Anna...

...and a nice one :) ...

I can't believe our "baby" is fourteen today.

Happy Birthday Jenna (s)!

  2. Congratulations on your new baby calf and happy birthday to Jenna.
I have a new baby calf that was born on Thursday and I called her Chicklet because she has a white tuff of hair on her head that looks like a chicken.

I like to name them by some identifying mark whenever possible. It makes it easier to identifying them when we have so many.

    Take care.

  3. It goes by too fast doesn't it. I think getting a heifer calf for a birthday is just awesome. It is your birthday too Alica, 14 years ago you had a baby. :) My oldest daughter is 31 and and I can still remember every thing about that day just like it was yesterday. I think it is so nice that God gave us this gift, the gift of motherhood. Have a wonderful day. My son was due January 18th but decided to wait until Feb. 3rd. almost 20 years ago. My devotions at this time are a total crack up. Now. It wasn't then.

  9. Happy belated birthday Jenna. It is hard to watch your kids get older. My baby is 28. Can you believe that. It seems like yesterday when he was setting traps for me in the hay barn with baling twine. Oh and that calf makes me ache for spring. I love calves and this time of year I even miss those rough, slimy tongues because the memories just flow.
