I'm a wimp, I'll admit it!
When the temperature drops AND the wind starts to blow, my anxiety level sky rockets. Like last night. It's the wind that gets me. I start to worry about all the different scenarios that a combination of wind and cold could create. Sigh...
It's beautiful this morning. COLD...but beautiful. I think it was 8 degrees when I got up, and hasn't warmed up much, but the winds are diminishing a little bit. Jim has the heater fired up in the barn so that we can keep water bowls open for the box pen heifers. After breakfast I'll fill the water tub for the outside pen animals.
I've used this picture before, but it feels so appropriate to go along with this post. My sister Peg snapped it last winter while on a walk around the golf course across the road from our farm. It captures just what it feels like out there this morning. Cold, but beautiful...
Now it's time to enjoy a delicious smelling coffee cake that Jenna is taking out of the oven as I type. The kids have off school today, and she surprised me by getting up at her regular time and baking while we were in the barn!
I hope you're keeping warm today!
oh, that photo is superb!!! stay warm, there! bless you!
ReplyDeleteThat IS a beautiful photo! Stay safe up there, I don't envy you the cold!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a Jenna baking me something this morning! ;) Oh well. I'm with you in regards to the wind, snow, and anxiety. I hate being like that but I think I'm getting a little better. My hubby is so brave, nothing scares or worries him, why can't I be like that!?! We've got snow and strong winds tonight and tomorrow, here we go again! Oy! Keep warm too!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet of Jenna. I bet that was so nice to come in the kitchen and smell and get warm. I love that picture too. I love seeing you farm in the background. You should just come on over, you would have a bit of sun to warm you up. It is funny to think your parents were here this time last year. It is if anything even warmer when they were here. Lots of blooming trees.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice icy shade of blue. Sure hope things warm up there for you!
ReplyDeleteAlicia,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, I can take the cold, but the wind gets to me also. Yesterday it was 9* when I got up and I saw afternoon temps in the low 30's. This morning it was 40* when I got up and is in the upper 50's this afternoon. The wind is blowing, but bearable because of the nice temp. Tomorrow ... cold front and possible snow.
What a fun surprise for your girls to bake for you!
Although I'm in Ottawa, there's another nasty winter snow storm with hurricane force winds and very cold temperature coming toward my home town and I worry about all that can go wrong at the farm on cold windy and snowy days.
ReplyDeleteThe wind always makes the temperature feel much colder. How comfortable
to get back in the house with the smell of fresh baking in the house.
Hugs,
JB
What a great treat to have Jenna baking so you have a nice treat when you're done working. I do love that picture!
ReplyDeleteThat must be so nice to come in to a warm treat! We are -27 degrees celsius here this morning, so that would be -16 degrees fahrenheit. I wish we had your temps! Our lovely Canada weather. We are due to start calving any day but I sure hope they stay in their mamma's bellies till it gets warmer. Have a great day!!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful--a tasty treat for after the chores :)
ReplyDeleteWe have a little snow on the ground this morning, but it isn't as bitterly cold as it gets up north!
Hope you keep warm. I love the photo of your place. Coffee cake sounds grand.
